Copper tube weight, length calculation and quality identification method

Copper tube refers to copper material made by pressing or drawing copper. Due to its strong and wear-resistant characteristics, it is often used in the electrical, industrial and construction industries. Copper tubes can be produced by extrusion, continuous casting and rolling, and up-drawing. Copper tubes are important raw materials for the processing and manufacturing of refrigeration equipment. They have two main uses

  • making heat exchangers;
  • making connecting pipes and pipe fittings.

 

Classification of copper tubes

 

1. Air conditioning copper tubes can be roughly divided into ordinary air conditioning copper tubes and degreased air conditioning copper tubes:

 

Ordinary air conditioning: The thickness is generally 0.5mm thick for 2-point and 3-point tubes, 0.6mm thick for 4-point, and 0.7mm thick for 5-point and 6-point. Mainly used for R22.

 

Degreased air conditioning copper tube: also called "degreased air conditioning copper tube", 2-point and 3-point tubes are 0.8mm thick, 4-point, 5-point, and 6-point are 1.0mm thick. Mainly used for refrigerants such as R410.

 

2. Specific classification of air conditioning copper tube materials:

 

Oxygen-free copper: including high-purity oxygen-free copper (TU0, TU1, TU2) and phosphorus deoxidized copper (TUP, TP1, TP2, etc.), characterized by extremely low oxygen content, and a small amount of deoxidizer remains in the deoxidized copper.

 

Oxygen-containing copper: mainly ordinary pure copper (T1, T2, T3, etc.) and tough copper, characterized by high oxygen content.

 

Special copper: arsenic copper, silver copper, tellurium copper, etc., characterized by the addition of different trace alloy elements to achieve the purpose of improving the comprehensive performance of the material.

 

Red copper tube: The copper tube used in our refrigeration industry is red copper, with a copper content of more than 99.90%. It has the good characteristics of copper metal, a high-quality basic metal, and is widely used in various industrial and civil fields, and plays an important role. There are mainly three types: TP2, T2, and TU1.

 

TP2 is phosphorus deoxidized copper, containing 0.015-0.04% phosphorus, with good welding and cold bending performance, and is widely used in the manufacturing fields of air conditioning refrigeration connecting pipes, stove gas connecting pipes, electric heating pipes, etc.

 

T2 is pure copper, with a copper content higher than 99.90%. When users have higher electrical conductivity requirements for materials, T2 copper tubes will be the first choice.

 

TU1 is oxygen-free copper, with a copper content of 99.97%, extremely low oxygen and impurity content, high purity, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, good ductility, processing performance, welding, corrosion resistance, and cold resistance. Due to its high production requirements and high costs, its product price is much higher than other types of copper tubes.

 

Brass tube: Copper-zinc alloy tube, the number after the letter H in the brand often represents the middle value of its copper content, and the zinc content is the remainder. Brass tubes of different brands, as the copper content increases, generally show better quality and elongation performance, and are mainly used as water pipes and wading connectors.

 

Judging the quality of copper tubes

 

1. Generally, it is necessary to observe the appearance of copper tubes to judge during procurement. First of all, look at the color of copper tubes. Different color judgments are made according to the type of copper tubes purchased. For example, copper tubes are generally made of reddish copper, which is good copper, and inferior copper contains impurities.

 

2. Generally, good copper tubes are made of pure copper, which will have better ductility, so high-quality copper tubes will have a deep line. After scratching the inside of the copper tube, if it is the same as the outer wall, it means that the overall quality of the copper pipe is relatively high. However, if the color or other aspects are different, it is very likely that some substances such as iron are added inside. However, better copper tubes are more used in military industry and its special industries.

 

3. Generally, processed copper tubes are mainly divided into three types: hard, semi-hard, and soft. Different forms have different flexibility. Generally, they can be determined by bending the copper tube. High-quality copper tubes are very easy to bend, but if it is difficult to bend or cracks appear after bending, it means that the quality of the copper tube is not very good.
