A good grinding wheel depends on the abrasive first. Usually, white corundum has good cutting performance and self-sharpening performance, and is suitable for grinding martensitic and martensitic ferritic duplex stainless steels. A single crystal corundum abrasive can also be selected, which is suitable for grinding austenitic and austenitic ferritic stainless steels.

In addition to the above two abrasives, microcrystalline corundum abrasives can also be used, which are composed of many tiny crystals and are characterized by high strength, toughness and self-sharpening. It can effectively reduce the occurrence of burns or burrs, and also reduce the roughness of the grinding surface, so it is suitable for grinding various stainless steel materials.
In addition, cubic boron nitride abrasive can also be selected. It has very high hardness, good thermal stability, and high chemical inertness. It will not oxidize in the temperature range of 1300℃-1500℃, and the cutting edge of the abrasive particles is not easy to change. blunt, resulting in less grinding heat, suitable for grinding all kinds of stainless steel. In order to reduce the sticking phenomenon, silicon carbide and synthetic diamond can also be used as abrasives.
In addition to the abrasive, the performance of the grinding wheel also takes into account the particle size. When grinding stainless steel, 36, 46, and 60 medium-grit grinding wheels are usually used. For rough grinding, 36 and 46 grit can be used, and for fine grinding, 60 grit is used. For both coarse and fine grinding, use a 46 or 60 grit.
The performance of the grinding wheel also needs to consider the bonding agent. Grinding stainless steel requires the grinding wheel to have good strength, which is convenient for bearing large impact loads. The vitrified bond is heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant. The grinding wheel made of it can maintain the cutting performance well, is not afraid of moisture, and has porosity. It is suitable for the production of a bond for grinding stainless steel grinding wheels. When grinding the inner holes of materials such as concentrated nitric acid-resistant stainless steel, resin bonds can be used to produce grinding wheels.
In addition, the hardness also needs to be considered, and a grinding wheel with a lower hardness is usually selected to enhance the self-sharpening. Grinding wheels with G-N hardness are generally selected, among which K-L hardness is the most widely used. For internal grinding wheels with microcrystalline corundum as abrasive, J hardness grinding wheels can be used.
