The difference between carbon steel and stainless steel

Date:2023-11-22View:293Tags:
Difference 1: Carbon steel contains carbon elements (carbon alloys) and a small amount of silicon. Its density is higher than stainless steel and its hardness is high, but it is easy to rust. Stainless steel contains acid and alkali oxidation components, its density is lower than carbon steel, its hardness is low, but it is not easy to rust. rust.
Difference 2: Carbon steel is easy to rust, brittle and wear-resistant, and is stronger when used as fixed structural parts. Stainless steel is less rust-resistant and has poor wear resistance, and is stronger for equipment used for regular activities.
Difference 3: The carbon content of carbon steel is 0.2%-0.7%, the color of iron, and magnetic; stainless steel is a high-alloy steel, the appearance color is mostly bright silver, non-magnetic, and the carbon content is low, and the addition of alloying elements greatly improves it. Improved antioxidant capacity and thermal stability.
Difference 4: Stainless steel adds stainless chromium. When the chromium content is >12%, an oxide film will form on the surface of the stainless steel, which has strong corrosion resistance. The carbon content of carbon steel is less than 2.11%. Although its hardness is much higher than that of stainless steel, it is easy to rust.
Difference 5: Stainless steel contains more chromium and nickel metal, and its surface is smooth and has a strong metallic luster. Carbon steel is mainly an alloy of carbon and iron, with relatively few metal elements, and its surface is not as smooth as stainless steel.

Difference 6: The alloy element content of stainless steel is about 20% or more. Therefore, the price is more expensive than carbon steel.

Stainless steel is divided into five categories:
1. Martensitic stainless steel: 409, 410, 430, which has high magnetism, high hardness, corrosion resistance and wear resistance.
2. Ferritic stainless steel: corrosion resistance, toughness and strength
3. Austenitic stainless steel: 201, 301, 304, 316, 321, non-magnetic, high mechanical properties
4. Duplex stainless steel: It has the advantages of ferrite and austenitic stainless steel.
5. Hardened stainless steel: has high strength, high toughness, corrosion resistance, high oxidation resistance and formability, weldability
