How to deal with copper pipe leakage?

Copper pipes that are experiencing a leak can be handled by following these steps

Turn off the water source

Immediately close the relevant water source valves, cut off the water flow, to prevent further expansion of the leakage and reduce the waste of water resources and possible losses.

Empty the water inside the copper pipe

Open the faucet and other drain ports to empty the remaining water in the copper pipe, to create a dry environment for the subsequent search for leaks and repairs.

Finding leaks

Carefully check the appearance of the copper pipe to see if there are obvious holes, cracks or signs of corrosion. For parts that are difficult to observe directly, touch with your hand to feel whether there is wetness, or use dry paper towels, rags, etc. to wipe the suspected parts, if the paper towels, rags become wet, then it may be a leak.

Repair leaks

- Welding: If the copper pipe leak is a smaller hole or crack, you can use copper welding to repair. First of all, the leak and the surrounding copper pipe surface clean up, remove oil, rust and other impurities, and then use the torch to heat the copper pipe, so that the welding rod melted and filled in the leak to form a seal.

- Ferrule repair: For some parts that can not be welded, you can use ferrule joints for repair. First saw off the copper pipe at the leakage, then put the ferrule on one end of the copper pipe, insert the straight-through joint, and then fasten the ferrule on the copper pipe, so that the joint and the copper pipe are closely connected to achieve the sealing effect.

- Sealant repair: If the connection of the copper pipe has a slight leakage, you can first clean up the connection, and then apply the appropriate amount of sealant, and then tighten or fix the connection part, wait for the sealant to dry and solidify, you can play a sealing effect.

Test the repair effect

After the repair is completed, open the water source valve, slowly pass the water, check whether there is still a leakage phenomenon at the repair. If there is leakage, turn off the water source and check and repair again.
